PBy in The Architect’s Newspaper

Zen Vuong interviewed several members of the PBy Collaborative for her recent article Rollin’ on the River, featured in the West Coast version of The Architect’s Newspaper.  Referring to the PBy Vision as a “transformative blueprint,” the article covers the basic project facts as well as our efforts to “initiate a dialogue with city leaders, public and private agencies, and the community.”  Union Pacific is quoted as well, reiterating our current understanding of the situation with the Piggyback Yard as outlined in Rail.  Click on the link above to read the entire online article.

blogdowntown: PBy as an alternative

Recently, blogdowntown succinctly described some of the complexities of revitalizing the Los Angeles River through downtown Los Angeles, quickly realizing that Nothing is Simple. The blog post highlights outdated land use patterns and various proposed developments in relation to river revitalization efforts, highlighting the PBy Vision as an alternative design for a single use railyard – no matter who the owner. Lewis MacAdams was interviewed, noting specifically that “there’s no space in the central city that’s not contested space” and that the real question is how to work around the existing rail tracks and create river access. Zocalo: PBy proposes a more integrated LA

Zocalo Public Square invited Piggyback Yard collaborators Marc Salette, Jim Stafford, Mia Lehrer and Michael Maltzan to discuss the promise of a revitalized Los Angeles, and how to build it.  Before a full house at the California Endowment on September 22, moderator Michael Woo, Dean of the College of Environmental Design at Cal Poly Pomona, led the discussion of our “guerilla planning” effort to transform this downtown rail yard into integrated public space, and to transform Los Angeles’ urban culture in the process.  A summary and video of the event are housed on the Zocalo Public Square website.
